These internships depend on available funds, program needs and the applicant’s interests.
Arctic Studies Center Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History Anchorage, AK & Washington, DC These internships are for undergraduate and graduate students in the fields of anthropology, Alaska Native studies and history are available in Anchorage, Alaska, and Washington, D.C.
National Museum of the American Indian Conservation Department Internships Suitland, MD A twelve-month internship with stipend, designed for either a pre-conservation program level student interested in pursuing conservation as a profession, or for an advanced level student from a recognized conservation program, is available through the NMAI Conservation Department. Ten-week internships are also available.
Smithsonian Office of Fellowships Washington, DC The Office of Fellowships offers programs with stipends targeting American Indian and Alaska Native students as well as community scholars, and also has a program targeting minority undergraduate and graduate students.
Smithsonian Center for Education and Museum Studies Washington, DC The office serves as a clearing house for Smithsonian internships and places applicants in positions throughout the Smithsonian, including the NMAI. Most placements do not include a stipend.
